I'd say overall, things went well. There were approximately 50 people there
to show their support for windsurfers' concerns. About 20 people spoke,
with a really good distribution of age/city of residence/background.

The views that I heard expressed were:

- The EIR uses an arbitrary definition of 'significant impact' which does
not
  reflect reality.
- The EIR study was based purely on reductions in wind velocity, and did
not address turbulence or other issues of air 'cleanliness.'
- The study assumed a constant temperature, which is not accurate.
- Coyote Point is a unique location in the Bay Area for beginners, and that
increasing the wind shadow in the launch area would make dangerous and
  difficult for learners.
- Windsurfers need all of the area of the current launch, and reducing the
launch area would significantly impact access.
- Moving the launch to the point might be acceptable for experienced
sailors,
but it would not be safe for beginners/intermediates.
- The variance in wind speed is as or more important than absolute speed.
Having gusts/lulls makes sailing difficult and unsafe.
- Windsurfing access it threatened at many sites in the Bay Area, and Coyote
is an important site that no one wants to lose.

There was a bunch more said, but that's what I can remember for now.

In general, the meeting was for public comment, so there wasn't a decision
to be made. They will continue to take public comment on the latest EIR
through Mar. 8, so if you haven't commented, please send them a letter:

 City of Burlingame Planning Department
 Attention: Meg Monroe, City Planner
 501 Primrose Road
 Burlingame, CA 94010

After receiving public comment, they will issue a new EIR with responses to
the comments.

The plannning department seemed appreciative of the comments, and I think we
did a good job of showing them that there is a large community that is
concerned about the recreation impacts of this development.
