Do you have an epoxy board that has taken on water???
Want to get it dried???
I'm working the kinks out of a vacuum drying system that seems to be working
pretty well for boards with an ASD-type plug insert. I read about this
process in a recent Wind Tracks where they interviewed a woman from Ventura
who does this as part of her board repair business - she says that she can
get a board completely dry. Basically, you suck out the "free" water in the
board, and then the water that is trapped inside the closed cell foam comes
out due to the lower boiling/evaporation temperatures at low pressures. I
have a vacuum pump, and pump down to about 1/3 atmosphere to do all this.
So far I've done a couple of boards, and you definitely get a lot of water
out (even in boards that have been sun-dried for weeks).
Anyway, a couple of questions.... (1) I'm looking for a few boards that have
taken in a fair amount of water to shake down my system (for free), anybody
interested??? I think I'm dialed in enough to not damage any board, although
I won't take any responsibility during my initial "guiney pig" stage. (2) If
I ever decide to charge people to dry their boards, what do you guys (and
gals) think would be a reasonable price?
Thanks,
Brad
