New Update ...
Please ignore the description of the thief "John" which was posted
last week. With the help of the internet and an honest windsurfer
(thanks!!!!) who accidently purchased stolen gear we have recovered
another board/mast. With the information he provided we have
determined that the 2 "innocent gear sellers" at Shoreline (8/15-8/16)
are telling many lies (ie. made up the story of "John" and the
newspaper ad). We need more information to determine whether the
other 8 (of 11) stolen boards were ever in their posession.

How can you help? If you have :
  - talked to the two people described below
  - purchased any of the used windsurfing gear listed below or on
        the classified section of www.windcall.com
       (MistralEnergies, HiFly275, pink BIC Rumba,WindwingSails...etc.)
  - see any of the gear at your local launch site.
  - have any other information to help the investigation
Please contact us at the numbers listed below.

In the interest of the whole Bay Area windsurfing community we would
like to stop the black-market sale (or sail) of stolen windsurfing
gear. Any any help you can provide in tracking down the criminals is
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
    Stanford Windsurfing Club

PS. It is highly advised that all windsurfers properly mark your gear,
e.g. a simple engraving of your Driver's License # on the mast track
or finbox & write your name in permanent marker on your sail. This
greatly aid in recovering your gear if stolen or lost in the bay.

As you might recall, last year (8/21/97) our windsurfing club had all
of its equipment stolen on from Palo Alto, CA. It has taken our club
over 5 years to earn the money and accumulate this gear. Thieves
broke into our storage container (cutting the 'hasp') and took 11
boards and 19 sails. Police reports were filed.

The thief has made an attempt to remove distinguishing marks from the
gear, but several of the items are unique. For those of you who don't
have time to wade through the full list the obvious items are :

     - Windwing Convertible Sails (1992) with 10" high black sail numbers
            SU01, SU02, SU04, SU08, SU09, SU14, SU17.
Colors : flourescent yellow with green with pink trim.
Note : the sail numbers might have been
removed, so look for adhesive residue in the above shapes.
     - CFX 8'4" board with very obvious grid pattern of holes (2"
spacing) on the bottom due to the traditional CFX
delamination repair. The board is white with blue letters.
     - BIC Rumba with strange pink graphics and
obvious white marinetex repair on the nose due to boom strikes.
