Subject: my summer vacation in the Gorge

Well, it was bound to happen. I've had too many successful windsurfing
trips, so
this one turned into a non-windsurfing trip. I was totally skunked - as in
nada,
zilch, zippo wind this past week. Sure, now that I'm home again and check the
pager it's blowing at Swell. A heat wave hit the Gorge and just shut
everything down.
There was some occasional wind, but it was either for the racer types on their
8.0's at the Event Site or the sink-swim-hula-to-plane-and-loop-and-repeat
kind at
the Hatchery, so I didn't go out.

Repeat Moral: Bring all your stuff. I didn't bring my big board and could have
sailed if I did. Snowboarding at Timberline was great and a nice way to escape
the heat.

New Moral: In a heat wave, head to the coast. Stopped by Pistol River on the
way home and it was cranking, but got there too late to sail. It does add quite
a bit of time to the drive, and then life definitely sucks when your car doesn't
have A/C at it's 110 outside.

Lots of real estate for sale in Hood River. Anybody know what's going on?
Also,
has anyone ever driven 299 East from 101 to I-5. I'd like to know if this is
faster than zig-zagging down 101.

May you be blessed with wind (I won't ever use the wind's name in vain),
Chris
