First of all I would like to apologize to the seasoned sailors on this
thread for turning it into a beginner's turf. But then again, we are
all doing this primarily for fun, aren't we?

I am kind of like John in that I do not really jibe. I've sailed
Crissy maybe 40-50 times in my windsurfing life (maybe 120-150 days all
together), so I do not really possess extensive knowledge of the place.

My observations about Crissy are:

0. safety first: only sail with a buddy, wear a warm wetsuit, carry
your safety gear, check your equipment before going out
1. If you feel comfortable in large chop/swells, tides, variable gusty
winds and CURRENT going either way, can slog your board well in 10 knots
of wind, can sail downwind way overpowered, can watch for ships &
ferries and not get in their way, you can probably sail it and enjoy it.
2. The first few times don't try it in the flood, or you may end up at
the Marina or even worse
3. The first few times don't try it in marginal wind on a board you
can't uphaul on.
4. The first few times don't go out too far
5. DO NOT COME EVEN CLOSE TO FERRYS AND SHIPS

Another thing I'd share from my experience there is that (at least for
the first the first few times) you really should talk to the local
sailors. They'd be glad to share with you all sorts of info about the
wind, current, and chop patterns, what size sail and board would be
optimal, as the conditions outside may be very different from what you
see on shore, etc.
