Arrived at Chrissy late Saturday, and the wind looked pretty good, began
filling into shore. Rigged 5.5, 8'10" (200#) and launched from St.
Francis. Caught the wind line 30 yards out and blasted to the middle of
the bay, where it was op'd with big time voodoo chop. Launched a couple of
pathetic jumps, and then continued out to the North where there was a patch
of smooth water and good wind almost all the way to whatever the little
harbor is called on the Marin side. Pulled off 12 consecutive jibes in the
good ego water and then headed back into the voodoo chop. I'd forgotten how
many different conditions you can find on a given day on the bay! The Old
Coast Guard Station was nice, but a little gusty. Headed back towards my
launch with a hair raising broad reach through the chop and the outbound
Chrissy traffic. By this time, the wind had clocked back around to what
seems to be this year's normal s. westerly, leaving large wind holes
inside. Ended the sesh with a 50 yard drift and swim; last years 8'10' ASD
Renegade just doesn't have quite enuf volume to schlog in marginal
conditions. Note, there could be an opportunity for a willing volunteer
with a jet ski or small boat to tow windsurfers to/from the wind line. I
would have loved to sail a smaller board, but didn't have the time to risk
the lengthy slog. Would gladly have parted with a couple of bucks for a tow!
