yes I've tested it. I've paddled more than a few miles on a variety of surf
and paddle boards and having the floatation and flatish bottom get's you
through the water much better. I've done a few multi mile swims, and the
biggest issue is psychological not physical. You can also rest on the board
quite easily. I've done the walk-o-shame a few times and forget the current,
just get to dry stuff. Once you're on land, that pesky hypothermia becomes a
much smaller problem.
I've also swum in from the channel when the wind shut off and I wasn't
concerned for my health (so I kept my sail/mast/boom) and I had company.
