Sailed for a few hours in thigh-waist high,side-off waves at Doran. Most
fun I've had since San Carlos in March! Although, the waves were small, I
had a blast. Easily amused I suppose. The surfers spent half the time
cheering and the other half snarling at me.(Sorry guys, but you were on the
peak and it was too windy for surfers anyhow!) Fully powered on a 3.8 Hot
spid., 7'10"clam-cuz the wave board is in repair. There were a few vert
starboard ramps on the way through that sometimes induced bail out at the
top. Had a few, go for the lip, side slide on the crest, butterly drops to
the bottom moves that were fun. As a beginner I haven't gotten air from
smacking the lip yet, but Tom(4.7Ezzy,glassboard,165?#s) was busting them!

The big adrenaline surge happened after Chris(husband, 5.2 hotspid,
8'8"glass, 210#s) showed up and we decided to go out to the Rock off of
Bodega Head. My first time out and I was Terrified. There were over head
waves, feathering at the top below the Rock. Side-on, barely breaking,
mushy, rideable waves. It was breathtaking, but I was pretty
spooked+overwhelmed and left Chris and Tom so that I could return to Doran.
I don't recommend the Rock for anyone sailing alone or without safety gear.
A Break down could be fatal! Annie
