Subject: 3rd Monday

what's the point. you all know it kicking ass big time out there.
These was my first time out since the begining of July. Since we had a
baby in June, I had shown my domestic consideration by raising the
wind threshold that would get me out on the water to about 25mph. so
with el nino and the shitty wind we had this summer I did not have too
     many opportunities to get out.

but yesterday made it up for the rest of the season. I blew a couple
career-making meetings in the afternoon, stopped to get my gear (which
-shame on me-I did no longer bother carry and showed up at the
familiar place around 3:45. rigging decisions were simple. 8.3/3.5
(#150). 3.0 would have done well.

Given the ebb and the high tide, I was wishing for the huge rip-rap
level rollers I only saw once out there (about 5 years ago the day
Jerome's daughter was born when the gusts hit 60mph). it was messier
than that. Still, it was a day when you want to make sure your lines
are not worn out (as Joe learned by the end of the day), the battery
in your radio is full, and your life insurance payments aren't late...
     nah... it wasn't that bad...

ran into Mr. "7.8" Justin Gordon on the water. a priviledge to see him
in these waters... after all, he was taking wave-sailing advice from
Ian Boyd just the day before... what was he doing in these safe urban
     waters...?

after messing around on the shore swell.. we took upon ourselves to
try the channel. The wind was not gusty, but it would go up and down
in strengths for long period of time. the channel was awesome... green
waters you could barely see with all the water flying... breaking
swell. again, it was not as deep and regular as I have seen it in the
channel. justin was oped. He was riding his huge 8.11 ASD and some big
megasail... so he went back and I followed him, not without trying to
take some big air on these sweet rollers. spent some time working on
my back loops which for some reason I find much less difficult to try
     than the forward.

So we continued messing around 'til we couldn't take it no more which
     was around 6:45...

I can see the sun's rising on the bay from my office window and it
does not look like a repeat... I did not sail that much this year
(20-30 days or so), but at least I did not even take my 5.3 out of its
     bag...
