I've surfed with sailors and sailed with surfers. The manueverability of
sailing the waves allows a competent sailor to give plenty of room for
surfing. I don't get the problem if both functionors respect each others
space.
Its kind of like bikes and cars. In some places its really dangerous because

the zone is so small (like some wave sites) and crucial, but most of the
times there is ample room for both parties.
