I ripped on my Explosion for 4 seasons(300 sessions) until it got so
many parking lot dings the front end had more ding stick than original
paint. I also found huge cracks tracing the pad inlay
perimeter(uh...heel dents). It gained 7 pounds by the time I noticed
what an anchor it was. Mind you, I had many many many days of
     screaming fun on that board.

I enjoyed that board but Xantos 285 is even more turny and has more
rocker for the bumps and is supposed to be more durable...For half
what a custom might cost. I am not convinced that the last half of
the custom's price buys me another 100% of the Xantos' performance.
Americans want my scratch? deliver the performance.

I am 220# and have been banging on my 8'8" ASD Epoxy as my main board
for 5 years. This board gets 50 + days per year and I learned to jump
on it. No problems!

HEY LOCALS.......BUY AMERICAN!! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHOP!!!!!! WHY BUY
INTO THE BJORN DUNKERBECK PROPAGANDA AND SEND YOUR MONEY TO THE
EUROS......

I am not saying everything has to be American, but at least check them
out (ASD, Haut, Priester, Ruger, Dill, etc.). These guys will take care
of you! When I see guys giving money to Mr. Pride who has done jack
shit for windsurfing in America it pisses me off! Especially when we
have better stuff here! I like having a local shop and I intend to keep
them in business!

        - Well, I don't own one, but I keep demoing them every year. I'd
say
the big difference in ASD is that you get a board that is
exactly
tuned to sailing in the bay area. Board design ( like any
design) is a
series of compromises. The guys as ASD know which compromises
will
work best on the bay. The other difference is weight and speed.
ASD
boards are generally a pound or two lighter than a similar
production
board ( less footstrap screws, higher quality fiberglass ). The
other
thing is that the guys at ASD like FAST boards, even their wave
boards
        are faster.

        - I was very tempted by the 8'11 mutant this year. This was the
first
ASD bay slalom board that I've demo'd that was fun to jibe. Very
fast,
and eats chop. It wasn't the board I was looking for ( a light
wind
slalom ), but still very tempting.

        - As far a durabilty goes, you can have them build a bombproof
board
if you want. But a custom epoxy is never going to be as abuse
proof
as a plastic coated board like the Mistral. You pay for the
        performance.
