I know this may not be the norm, but I have always put my rear foot in first.
I have always felt off balence putting my front foot in first. Standing
with both feet in front of the footstraps I slide my rear foot into the
footstrap, with the rear foot in I can keep the board flat on the water
while I get the front foot in.
