I bought a Mutant (8'11") to replace a Mistral Screamer (9'2") as my
primary board. At the time I bought it, I weighed enough to sink the
Screamer (ugh!) and was getting disappointed with it's and my sailing
performance. I figured the Mutant would sink too... not... it actually
is way more floaty. And now that I have dropped a few pounds (down to
200#) I wish I had bought an even smaller Mutant.
It handles chop without giving me knee pains that the Screamer used to
cause. It takes some careful urging to get it onto a plane when in
light conditions. When powered up conditions, it jumps on a plane
immediately. It's very maneuverable and turns quite fast. It took me
awhile to get used to the change in boards, but now I really like it.
I expected that the board wouldn't be as fast as the Screamer on speed
runs, however I think now that it's every bit as fast or faster. The
board is not very ding durable on the deck and is taking on a wrinkle
look now with all my dents from wipeouts (j/k). So I really need to
watch where I allow the mast to go when I fall. Maybe when I get my
jibes working I won't need to worry so much about damaging the board.
Anyway, it's a fun toy for the inside or the channel at 3rd.

Yestersay was a pretty good day at 3rd. I went out on 5.2/8'8"(207#)
and had a great time in the channel. The wind was good from 4 to 6:15,
at
which time someone turned off the fans.

I have notices several folks on the new Mutant boards. In the near term
I will be replacing my beloved Bic Tempo, the above 8'8". I would love
to
get
some feedback on how the Mutant performs in the chop and more
importantly
in real ocean waves. The guys at ASD seemed to think that if I am
going into the waves at all, the Enduro is the way to go. Thoughts?
comments?

I have tried the Enduro, 8'10" and loved it, although at times it was
hard
to
get up on a plane. Have not tried the Mutant yet, they are always out.
