A few days ago there was a question about the launch at Davenport.
One trick I learned was that if you launch from the beach and cannot
water start quickly, then swim your rig out instead of trying to fight
the nasty shorebreak, you don't have to swim too far to be free of certain
destruction. I think there may be a rip there that draws you out, thats why it
drops off so fast there.

The other option is to walk up to the lower break and launch off the shelf
but it has alot of holes etc in it that can make it tricky too.
