Subject: Hawaii?
sergei, give me a ring at 879-6793 for more detail info
but based on five trips:
I am planning my first windsurfing trip to Hawaii this summer.
Could somebody give me some basic hints?
Where to go?
Maui, sail at kanaha, kihei, speckelsville no hookipa unless
you are really good and experienced in waves.
where you go depends on the wind, often when kanaha does not have
wind kihei does....try them both
Buy a special windsurfing package? From?
call the maui shops but...
Or just tickets+condo?
assuming looking for cheap
I recommend this...
go for suntrips.....now...generally cheaper...little more
hassle than say united.
condo: try leinaala in kihei...998 south kihei rd 800 334 3305
I stay here because my in_laws let us stay for free with them
(dad in law wants someone to sail with, but he's better than me)
they have board racks, and you can sail right there (no drive ) when
the wind is right...which is really nice, no pack unpack etc back to
the condo for a cold one.
car: word of mouth rent a car....cheap, ac, roof racks if you want, lots
of miles, look more local (less chance of ripoff) owner lives in leinaala.
How can I rent the board there?
How long are you there? it costs 150 r/t to bring gear...plus hassle
rentals start at 50 buck a day but go down to about 35 or so for 7-10
days. If you reserve ahead often you can get a discount. The
summer is busy so if you rent, reserve ahead to make sure you get gear.
I've been happy with Second Wind and Hi-Tech...look in any windsurf magazine and
you will find ads for them. Call them and get them to send info...everyone
is about the same price, Second wind generally give the rent in advance
discount.
Shall I bring my sales?
you can different combinations of board, boom etc so you can bring
your sails. It saves some.
Rent a car?
needed.... see above
Roof rack?
part of board rental or buck a day at work of mouth
Is July windy?
yes
other:
get up early run, snorkel, sun....beaches are not fun once wind is up...
except for windsurfing.
watch your stuff, I had a rental mast stolen while i was 15 feet away from
it, loading my car at kanaha
Many thanks in advance
