Really do talk to your agent folks. Homeowners policies typically cover
theft. Loss from damage (like some idiot cuts you off on 101 and you
rollover smashing all your boards, racks and sails in the rack-top box,
but walk away because you were wearing a seatbelt, or the movers drop
your T.V. off the truck) is a different thing from theft, and not
covered under most policies. Also, most auto policies have limits on
sporting equipment, so that doesn't typically do it for our gear
intensive sport either.

Insuring your windsurf gear with State Farm under a watercraft policy is
not prohibitably expensive. They used to treat each board as a hull, but
they no longer do that. It's stricly a dollar value thing now. My policy
is about 2% of value per year with a probably too low deductable. If you
need a knowledgable agent and live near Los Gatos then call Crystal
Downs at 408-374-0760. NOTE: I'm just a satisfied customer.
