Subject: Saturday report

Sailed at Natural Bridges for the first time. Less than an hour drive from
Menlo Park with moving traffic on 17. Outstanding slalom conditions: very flat
water, no Bay chop, no beach break and only a little swell outside later in
the day. Is it always like this, or does it also get waves?
5.9, 200lbs, from 3 - 6:30. Cross/on shore wind, seemed stronger at the parking
lot than on the water. Over-powered later on, but totally manageable with the
flat water, just kept going faster. Hit some high speed, long turning jibes.
Less than 15 people on the water. Wind shut down very fast. $6 parking fee.
Restroom, water and grass rigging at the parking lot. The walk down to the
beach isn't bad, but at the end of the day I just wanted to leave the stuff
on the beach. Did some kelp harvesting with my 16.5" blade. A swept fin would
have helped a little, but hitting that stuff at warp speed it wouldn't have
made much of a difference. The biggest bed was to the south, which caught me
on the way out. A most frustrating experience, although a pair of otters were
amused by my debacle. Once on the outside, there was no reason to tangle
with it again. Fantastic coastline views. I'm going to have to do this again.

Chris
