Subject: Crissy Field Status - Summary

Bill Robberson is the lead person in charge of the Crissy Field
Planning Team. The following is a summary of the current status: (A
more detailed account will be in the next newsletter)

The Team last met with the park service reps last Thursday 8/17/95. A
tour of the site was conducted to discuss the two alternatives the
park service is finalizing. Both alternatives are acceptable to the
SFBA. The difference being some wetlands restoration near the pipe.
Neither plans provide significant amenities. Both provide a
significant increase in open space and adequate parking.

Beginning sometime in October, both of the buildings will be removed.
We made a pitch to retain the Western most building (#277) for safety
equipment storage, etc. but to no avail. The park service is
committed to making the entire area open space. All the trees will
          remain.

The SFBA Planning Team (Bill Robberson, John O'brien, Jay Valentine)
have worked very hard to make sure our voice is heard along with all
the other competing Interest Groups that have a vision for Crissy
          Field.

As far as any restrictions on launching from Crissy (i.e. permit).
All of that is on hold. The problems have not been severe enough for
them to look at us. We expect this issue to resurface if the number
of rescues increase and the park service has more time to deal with
          the issue.

Kelly,

Since you are from the SFBA, could you give all of us an
update on Crissy Field?

What is happening there?

Have gear storage lockers and other amenities received very much feedback?

Many city and Marin residents only sail Crissy on weekday afternoons,
as the rush hour traffic makes it too difficult to drive anywhere else.

I would be willing to pay a fee to store my gear at Crissy, and I suspect
that others would too.

This would be somewhat analagous to having a locker at a ski resort. You
need to do a little planning to go somewhere else, but the convenience
makes it well worthwhile.

Thanks,

Justin
