Hi:
I am new to wind_talk.
I am a big boat sailor and a rank beginner boardsailor with very
keen interest in meteorology and weather issues that pertain to
sailing conditions on the Bay and Ocean.

Re: Tides and Current Tables:
The local Bay area tide tables were tabulated from seasonal averages
for tides and current flow data that was collected many years ago.
The algorithms that are used are flawed and offer only an indication
of what to expect, and may or not agree with the actual conditions that
you will experience.
The local tug and SF Ship pilots are currently adding 1.3 knots to
the ebbing current tables from Richmond/San Raphael Bridge to Golden
Gate Bridge to adjust for the increased winter runoff down the
Sacramento River. Adjustment from the flood values are slightly
less around 0.9 to 1.0 knots.
Would like to see more info in wind_talk about peoples observations
experience with Currents in the Bay, particularly when you observe
marked differences with the tables. "Local knowledge" is where it is
at, and that how you win racing.
