Subject: Re: RE: surfing/camping around bodega bay?

Craig asks about Bodega:
The camp sites sound good for sailors, but how are they for nonsailing
partners and kids? Sand blast city or is there any protection? Is this
place
nice even if there is no wind, ie. tide pools, etc.?

Mike Godsey/Windsight says:
Great hiking around Bodega Head, small surf at Doran to play in, clam digging
at low tides, two excellent restaurtants, sort of like Half Moon Bay 30 years
ago. There is good wind protection from shelter on the beach and behind the
trees. Camping is best in an RV but if you put a tent near the trees the
wind is OK. No blasting sand except at the waterline at Doran Beach. Very
clear water. Best season March thru June with winds in the 18 to 45 knot
range with 4.5 being most common. Winds are very strong right at all the
launchs so tiny board OK. Tide pools and surfing at Salmon Creek 1 mile north
of Bodega. Super Abalone picking in 18" of water about 30 miles north.

Have fun
