In a board old or unfortunate enough to have a standard finbox, a
finsaver (I use Skeg Savers) is a plastic nut for holding down the
leading edge of the fin. If you hit something, the plastic nut strips
out instead of your finbox and the fin just tilts back around the pins.
The downside is that eventually a finsaver will pop loose on something
that seems too small.
