Subject: GOES-7 vs -8

I'm surprised you like GOES-8 for the Bay Area. I find that GOES-7
(near the Pacific Coast) is easier to read than -8 (near the
Atlantic Coast).

Certainly the 4-km resolution is nice, but what we really need are 1- or
2-km images. I believe 1-km is possible on GOES-8, and I believe 2-km
is possible on GOES-7, but only people with their own satellite
receivers seem to receive and distribute images at those resolutions for
their own areas. http://thunder.atms.purdue.edu/satellite.shtml has
examples for Indiana that are either 1 or 2 km.
