I just thought I'd cross-post this here for those of you who don't have
access to the Usenet Newsgroups since most of you sail around here.
Please pass the word onto those not having Internet access.

Yeccch!

An estimated 30,000 - 50,000 gals of municipal raw wastewater and runoff
from a So. San Francisco construction site flowed into San Francisco Bay
across from the Oyster Point Marina windsurf launch site. The incident
occurred as a result of a mechanical failure at a nearby pump station
Monday, Aug. 29th at approx. 1 pm.

The incident was reported to the Regional Water Quality Control Board,
California Dept. of Fish & Game, State Office of Emergency Services,
and the San Mateo County Health Dept. Samples of the water were collected
for testing but the results are not yet available.

The area affected is the cove on the southeast shoreline of the municipal
Oyster Point Marina in So. San Francisco. Tidal flow over the next few
days should dilute the contamination to background levels.

(For what it's worth...)

I'd probably avoid the area for a while...
Don't know if the Health Dept. anticipates posting signs in the area but
I'll post a followup if I see anything.
