The San Francisco Boardsailing Association is a non-profit 
organization dedicated to the improvement of boardsailing in the 
San Francisco Bay Area.  Through its active membership and the 
local chapters, the organization goals are achieved.
The Association's goals are:
    Promote Safety
    Provide Education
    Ensure Access
    Improve Facilities
The Association was originally formed in 1985 by a group of 
Crissy Field boardsailors.  Since then, the Association has 
diversified to address locak issues at numerous sailing spots.  
The 5 chapters of the SFBA represent the San Francisco Bay Area 
boardsailing interests around the Bay.
    San Francisco Chapter
In order of incoporation:
    East Bay Chapter
    Candlestick Chapter
    Peninsula Chapter
    North Bay Chapter
These chapters are organized to best represent all the 
boardsailors' interests of Bay Area.  You don't need to join any 
specific chapter, but if your interested in contributing 
something back to the sport that gives you some much enjoyment, 
your help would be greatly appreciated.  You can help to organize 
functions such as parties, races, annual beach clean-ups, or work 
to help publish the newsletter.  Pease write to the local Chapter 
at the PO Box if you're interested in helping out.
SFBA Accomplishments:
General
- California not-for-profit organiztion with federal & state tax 
  exempt status.
- Active Membership of over 1600 members
- Regular Newsletters during the summer
- Support network for all the chapters
San Francisco Chapter
- Sailboarding safety signs & bullitin boards at Crissy Field.
- Crissy Field Windtalker located at St Francis Yacht Club.
- Windsocks on the beach
- Beach Cleanups
- Racing Events
- St Francis Yacht Club Parties
- Portable Tiolets at Crissy Field
- Sponsored several educational presentations on boat safety with
  the Coast Guard, Hornblower Yachts, and the Harbor Pilots
  Association.
- Provided input into the Golden Gate National Recreation Area to
  ensure boardsailor's interests were reflected in the Crissy
  Field Park plan.
East Bay Chapter
- Berkeley Marina Windtalker
- Promoted boardsailing for improvements to the South Sailing
  Basin at Berkeley Marina. (Restrooms & showers, Longer Docks
  Additional Docks, Larger, Paved Parking Lots)
- Ashby Avenue Beach Clean-ups
- Monitoring City of Berkeley's Task Force for the North
  Waterfront Park Development.
- Evening Racing Series
Candlestick Chapter
- Amendments to the Candlestick General Plan to ensure
  Windsurfing access.
- Increased parking spaces close to the launch area.
- Candlestick Windtalker
- Sailboarding Safety Signs (yet to be installed)
Peninsula Chapter
- Palo Alto Yacht Habor Boarsailing Access Station Plan Approval 
- City of Palo Alto
- Defeated San Mateo County's plans to eliminate the Season Pass
  for parking at Coyote Point.
- Installed boardsailing safety signs and bullitin boards at
  Coyote Point
- Held annual beach clean-ups and put down pea gravel in areas
  most in need (Coyote & 3rd Ave).
- Supported permit approvals for pending beach improvements at
  Coyote Point.
- Formed the Team 100 Boy Scout Explorer Post and Safety Patrol.
- Organized SWAP meets to raise funds for TEAM 100.
- Monitoring Burlingame Hotel project located northwest of the
  coyote point launch area.
- Monitored the access restrictions to Flying Tigers.
- Successfully lobbied government officials to require the City
  of Foster City to provide the windsrfing site improvements at
  3rd Avenue (ramps, parking, rigging area, etc).
- Monitoring the access threat to the Third Avenue Launch Sites
  by the project to extend 3rd Ave to the San Mateo Bridge.
North Bay Chapter
- Monitoring Larkspur Landing access issues resulting from the
  San Quentin Prison expansion plans.
- Annual Beach cleanups & installation of safety signs and a
  portable tiolet.
These are briefly some of the major accomplishments of the SFBA 
over the past several years.  As the Association endeavours to 
meet the challenges of 1990s there will be many more 
accomplishments,  but not without the support of the boardsailing 
community in the form of active, interested individuals and a 
large supporting membership.
