Yes, I think I might have a word to the wise.

Earlier that same day, I took part in a company softball game. I
haven't been on a baseball diamond in 20 years. After 3 hours of
running around the infield, my knees were very sore, and my leg muscles
were totally fatigued (mostly my quads). I got home, and made the
mistake of checking the wind reports. I live 10 minutes from 3rd Ave,
and couldn't just sit there knowing that it was blowing 25. So off I
went. I rigged the 5.7 and was very powered. My knees were very sore
and tired, and I was having a very difficult time holding the board
down, and absorbing the chop. I had already fallen a couple of times
from spinning out due to my poor leg work in the chop. A big gust hit
me, railed the board up and shot it out from under me. This threw me
over the tail of the board, which bent my back foot over backwards, as
it ripped out of the back foot strap. I was able to sail back in, but
it was painful. I didn't use the foot straps on the way back in ;-\

So, word to the wise: **know your limits, physical as well as ability**.
I've taken long bike rides on the same day I've gone windsurfing,
without any problems. Maybe this made me overconfident. Looking back,
after that softball game, my legs muscles weren't just tired, they were
strained. I thought I could go out for an quick, easy sailing session,
and just take it easy. It's pretty hard to "take it easy" on 5.7 race
sail in 25 knots of wind (although from shore, it didn't look that
windy; more stupidity on my part). What I really should have been
doing was soaking in a hot tub. So now I have 6 weeks to learn from my
mistake.

P.S. A standard X-Ray did not show the fracture in my foot. I had
to have a CT-Scan done to find the fracture. This fracture is known
as a Lis Franc fracture. Lis Franc was an 18th century French Dr who
discovered this type of fracture on soldiers who had fallen from their
horses with a foot caught in the stirrup.

Just a little factoid...
