Several folk on this group and on rec.windsurfing have asked about tide
calculations. I sincerely recommend that you all find a copy of a
program called "tides". I'll try to post it somewhere ftp'able with the
bay area data (it comes by default with golden gate, but not other parts
of the bay, read on).

This is a shareware program, I paid the $15 registration fee so that I
could get the source (basic, yuk!) and get the data for the bay
area. I'll be more than happy to give away what I have, but do recommend
rewarding the author for sharing his efforts.

The user interface is primitive, but the functionality is robust. The
program uses NOAA-derived astronomical constants and tide differences to
compute everything. In the bay area the Golden Gate is used as a
reference and differences are used to calculate tides (and currents) at
various locations. The differences data reflects fine-grained
observational data (such as between east and west ends of the San Mateo
bridge, Coyote Pt., Oyster Pt. etc). I also have the current (as opposed
to tide) data for the east end of Sherman Island.

This program runs on IBM-PCs. Again the user interface is
primitive. Right now there is enough there to write out a database that
you can hack in a spreadsheet if you want to do some searching.
